Simi Karan, originally from Odisha, spent her entire childhood in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh and did her early studies from here. Simi's father DN Karan works in Bhilai Steel Plant and his mother Sujata is a teacher in Bhilai's Delhi Public School. Simi studied till 12th from Delhi Public School itself and topped the entire state by scoring 98.4 percent in class XII.
According to the report of DNA, Simi Karan initially had no plans to join the civil service and hence he gave IIT entrance after 12th. After this she was selected for IIT Bombay and she started studying engineering.
During her internship during engineering, Simi Karan went to teach children in the nearby slum area, then the idea of helping people came to her mind, but she was not able to do so. After this, the idea of joining such a field came in his mind, through which he could help people. Then he decided to go to the civil service.
Simi Karan started preparing for the UPSC exam in the last year of engineering and decided to do self-study. Simi says that she first saw the interviews of the toppers and prepared a list of books for herself with the help of the internet. Simi Karan passed the UPSC exam in the very first attempt by doing self-study without joining coaching. Simi says that her graduation from IIT Mumbai ended in May 2019 and there was a UPSC exam in June.He had very little time to prepare for the final, but smart studies coupled with hard work came in handy and cleared the UPSC exam in the very first attempt.IAS officer became only at the age of 22Simi Karan secured 31st rank in All India in UPSC Civil Services Exam-2019 (UPSC CSE 2019).
