Why is there a white towel on the chairs of IAS and IPS officers? This has sparked a discussion on social media. It all started with a tweet from an IRTS official. The IRTS official wrote in his tweet that if there are 10 identical chairs in a room, how do you recognize a senior's chair? Put a white towel on it. After this tweet, users are reacting by making comments. Some officials have also reacted to this post.

It so happened that IRTS officer Sanjay Kumar tweeted about the administrator and mentioned that he had put a white towel on the chair. This time, he wrote, "Once my superiors asked me, 'No towel?' I said, sir the chair is clean.

How IAS and IPS officers started putting white towels on their chairs. IRS officer Vikas Prakash Singh has also expressed his views in this regard.

He wrote that it probably started with a chair with thick cushions in British times. There was no AC etc. at that time. The chair was getting wet from the sweat. So a towel was being put on it. Over time, however, this status became a symbol. Which continues to this day.
