How to use book
Why 'Social and Political Life'?
The members who prepared the National Curriculum Framework 2005 were of the view that the subject of civics was a subject that emerged from a particular colonial past and therefore needed to be changed. The members of the Curriculum Committee also recognized that civics had so far focused only on describing government institutions and programmes. This topic should have been written in a way that included a critical point of view. Under this understanding a new topic emerged 'social and political life'. This new discipline has expanded its scope to include various aspects of social, political and economic life.
How is 'social and political life' different?
A different kind of thinking has been adopted in this book which we have tried to present clearly. It is a combination of three elements. 1. Children learn well through concrete experiences. Keeping this idea at the heart, an attempt has been made to discuss institutions or processes with fictional accounts or case studies or those exercises.
